This week’s Throwback Thursday features the painting “Part of the Family”. It is one from my series of paintings using my collection of vintage and discarded portrait photographs as reference. Over the years I have acquired old and found photographs of people from vintage and antique stores. I am intrigued by how these photographs of people were discarded. What did these people do? What were their lives like? Who was their best friend? Did their family line literally die off and there was no one alive to keep the memory? All of the photographs in my collection are black and white, some paper, some tintypes, but no daguerreotypes. I wanted to modernize and breathe some life back into these people, so I used color and contemporary motifs to assist.
