shape:
a. the visible makeup characteristic of a particular item or kind of item

b. spatial form or contour

What is the first thing you notice when you wake up? Chances are its one of two things: color or shape.

All objects have shape. Whether it is as simple a circle or as complex as a silhouette of giant oak tree. In art, a shape is what is created when a line is enclosed. They can play integral parts in the creation of art. Shapes help create patterns and can even affect the visual balance within a piece. A shape is a two-dimensional area that is defined by a change in value or some other form of contrast. Shapes are always 2 dimensional, artistically speaking.

Next time you wake up, what are some of the shapes you see? What shapes to do you see in my paintings?
