The Realness of a Promise

When was the last time you made a promise?
Promise: Reason to expect something.

It’s time for realness. It isn’t always easy being a full-time artist. Ghosts from past art school critiques, professors, family members, uninformed strangers, etc. can haunt you in the studio. “Do this, no do it this way” “You used hot pink? I would have used Alizarin Crimson” “Why did you choose to have the bear facing left instead of to the right?” “Silver leaf would compliment better than gold leaf”. “Those eyes look a little… off” “What is your REAL job?”

When I first took the leap as a full-time artist I made a promise to myself back then to never give up. To keep moving forward, no matter what. No matter how many “NO’s” I would get. Rejection letters? Ha! I laugh at thee. Gallery not interested in my work? On to the next one. Life is too short to sulk over these things. Through sickness and in health, through thick and thin. Art-making is a constant and I can not imagine doing anything else with my life. It has been with me since childhood and will be with me for the rest of my life. A closed door allows another one to open. Just stay the course and believe in yourself.

I am pleased to announce that my series, “Primal Dreams” is currently hanging at Give Back Real Estate in Athens, GA. It has been a good while since I have had a solo show, so I am thrilled to announce this.
