When I was a kid my dad always told me “you can never go home again” after visiting my grandparents. I didn’t understand as we pulled into our driveway after every visit. It took a long time for me to fully understand what he meant. I had recently purchased my own home and was visiting my parents one weekend. I was pulling out of the driveway heading back to my new home and it hit me. My heart was flooded with nostalgia, a longing to be a kid again, and all the goodness that comes from being “home”. A bittersweet emotion came over me as I waved to my parents, knowing I wasn’t just waving goodbye to them but also securing those wonderful memories of birthday parties, beach vacations, and taught moments even deeper into my heart.
