The new year has opened with great enthusiasm. I have been painting almost everyday and it feels great. I won’t lie – the severe cold has kept a little distance between me and the actual studio in our backyard. But never fear, I purchased a nice tabletop/portable easel that is perfect for indoors when my bones just can’t quite take the chill. I’ve also moved back to painting with oils. It was like seeing a dear old friend. We’ve been having a most magnificent time reminiscing about old times and catching up on current events. I’ve been using some new water mixable paints by a German company by the name of Lukas. They’ve got great color and consistency. Best of all, the water mixable aspects make them a much better choice for those concerned about the environment.

I’m currently working on 2 big wood panels, one of a ram and the other of an elephant. The most current piece is this little gem of a white wolf. It’s a cozy 8×10. I’ve been concentrating on wildlife (animals in general) in the modern world and trekking through the concepts of animal welfare, what it means to be humane and environmental impact. Hope you enjoy!

Dezember 2013

I’ve been doing some still lifes for the past few weeks in between my normal work. They are great practice and I love the narratives that can occur when certain objects are placed next to each other. This one is of a skull and a piston head (from my 1953 Buick engine rebuild). I like the idea of these two “used” heads sitting next to each other.

In other news I just got accepted into an online gallery in Scottsdale, AZ. It’s called Xanadu Gallery. You can find my page here. If I’m one of the top sellers I’ll be invited to have work in their actual Scottsdale, AZ gallery. So it’s a stepping stone and a great one. I’m extremely excited about this opportunity as I’m officially represented by this wonderful gallery. I hope every one has a fun and safe holiday season and I’ll see you all next year!

NOVEMBER 2013

Hallo meine Freunde und Familie! You’ll notice some changes to this month’s newsletter. I’ve decided to change some things around a bit to hopefully keep you all interested and not overwhelmed with info. I’ve dropped the sections and decided to keep the newsletter focused on a single subject or piece of artwork. I’ll still be doing specials from time to time and will notify everyone accordingly.

So this latest piece is a special commission for a friend of mind who has been collecting my work for a little over a year now. This friend/collector particularly likes my wildlife subjects and commissioned me to do a painting of a bull. It was a great challenge as I haven’t painted a bull before. I enjoyed painting at this large size as it allowed for broader brush marks and adds to the boldness of the head-on image of the bull. “Look Into My Eyes”

Part of  Model Citizen’s “Heads Will Roll” auction/exhibit to benefit  Community Connection

I made this special MOX by carving out the foam inside the head. I then cut the eyes out and installed a circulating LED. The LED circulates through the colors red, blue and green. Since this is to celebrate Halloween I went with classic Hollywood Horror icons, Lon Chaney, Jr. as the Wolfman, Bela Lugosi as Dracula and Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s monster. They are each tinted red, blue and green (respectively) so that as the LED circulates through the colors only one is visible at a time. Hope you enjoy!
