A Painter’s House Never Gets Painted

A Painter’s House

What’s the old saying…a painter’s house never gets painted? Often is true and I have been guilty. Despite this, I managed to carve out some time over Spring Break last week to spruce up our very own hallway in our modest brick ranch home. My lovely wife, Marie, came to me with the proposition of painting a mural of sorts for the entire hallway. I had a break in between other art gigs and the thought of raising the bar on our hallway would be a wonderful refresh. We tossed around possible ideas for the design and finally settled on large botanicals. I was thrilled to get to work on the sketches and start slinging paint on the wall.

I don’t have a green thumb, but I love plants and I tell you I married way up in that department. Marie is seriously god’s gift to plants. She is one of the most passionate and informative people I have ever met when it comes to our chlorophylled friends. She also has a keen sense of interior design so when it comes to doing something like this in our house, I’m all for it. We wanted some color but not (as she puts it) Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. If I was left to my own devices, the house would probably be an entire palette of neon greens, blood oranges, and hot pink.

Marie envisioned dark greens of botanicals and I thought it would be fun to throw in some succulents. Our worlds came together with a beautiful array of subtle palms and aloes with pops of blooms from a prickly pear and rebutia cactus. I spent the whole week painting it and wanted to share with you.
