The blank white surface stared back at me. Judging me. Taunting me. Hah! I laughed at its blank face. “You can try and intimidate me all you want, Mister, but I am here to bring fun and drink beer. Looks like we’re almost out of beer…”
The starkness of the canvas (no matter what the size) can be paralyzing. Once that first mark is made though, the “zone” steps in. Making the decision to commit is sometimes the hardest part of a painting. You have to remind yourself whether you think you can or think you can’t. You’re right. So just make that first mark. It all starts with the smallest step.
This past weekend I had the wonderful pleasure of painting a mural version of my piece “WEIRDOUGH” for Strange Duck Brewing’s We Heart Art Harvest & Art Festival. It was an absolute blast!
